In last night’s 110-105 loss in Memphis, the Los Angeles Lakers looked like a team with little motivation to make the playoffs. They are 3.0 games behind San Antonio for the eight seed. Their odds of making the playoffs have plummeted all the way to just 2.9%, according to Basketball Reference.
LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers and what was really an automatic playoff berth in the weaker Eastern Conference for a challenge in Los Angeles. Last night, the King looked lethargic and disinterested on the defensive side of the ball.
James put up a triple-double with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Take a look at his defense last night and you tell me if the King really cares if the purple and gold play postseason basketball.
After the game, the three-time NBA champion approached reporters in the locker room and bashed his team’s overall effort.

Like it or not, LeBron deserves criticism from both the fans and media. This is the effort you put into a preseason game with nothing on the line.
This will sound crazy, but I truly believe LeBron James is actively trying to NOT make the playoffs. If the Lakers make the playoffs, they could go on a run and it could 1) Make it harder to justify trading the young guys 2) Make Luke Walton harder to fire pic.twitter.com/oKFxEuVqfu— Aaron Torres (@Aaron_Torres) 26 février 2019
Do you think James made a mistake signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in hindsight? Give us your take in the comments section.
